Michael Unis, John Nulty, John Quattrocchi, and Joseph Bellino attended the Candidate’s Forum on April 2nd.

The night’s event consisted of questions from the audience, as well as, emailed questions from the community.

Each candidate presented an opening and closing statement.

Unis prepared the following opening statement:

Good evening.

I would like to thank the League of Women Voters for hosting this event and members of the community for coming out tonight.

As many of you may know, I'm a life-long resident of Verona and my platform is about making education a community initiative.

Tonight I would like to highlight three initiatives, which include Google Apps: Education Edition, a website upgrade, and a proposal for a student board member. These are ways we can enrich the educational experience for our schools and community.

The first initiative I'd like to talk about is a software program called, Google Applications. This drives collaboration and savings among our schools at no cost to the taxpayer or strain on the budget. A few examples include an online support network for the college process and easy to use teacher websites.

My second community initiative is an upgrade to, veronaschools.org. This upgrade does not have a limiting contract and brings state of the art technology not only to the Verona Schools, but also to the community as a whole. In addition, it enables new opportunities to strengthen our existing curriculum, and could save more than $16,000 over five years.

The third highlight is the proposal of a student member to the board of education in a non-voting position. This is designed to provide a direct link into the life of students in Verona, as well as, further prepare our students for success as we invite them to participate in a professional process.

Please visit michaelunis.com to explore more possibilities and I look forward to talking more tonight.
