Weekend Planning
Saturday, February 26, 2011 at 7:31PM I just finished up spiraling in concepts from the final Mathematics Benchmark for 5th grade. Now, I'm moving onto creating an item analysis of the last Unit Test. Once the item analysis is complete I'll be able to pull out specific concepts for remediation, as well as, for the purpose of review spirial in well mastered concepts. I'm eager to get to the daily lesson planning phase, however, all of this pre-planning is important.
Basically, an Item Analysis is when the response for each question from the assessment is entered into a spreadsheet. An Average for each question/mathematical concept is generated so the teacher can use that percentage to decide how to target remediation or enrichment of content. So, if 14% of the class answer question #21 correct, then the teacher may choose to reteach this concept as a whole class. On the other hand, if 76% answered question #21 correct, a more targeted approach such as a small group may work best (in terms of maximizing learning time in the classroom for all students).
I'll be sure to update as soon as I have the item analysis completed.
